How it works
Four steps, from listing your home to the deed.
List your home
Add photos and details, and upload a document showing you own the property. Your street address stays private; only the city, state and ZIP code are shown.
Find a match and propose a trade
Browse and search other owners' homes, save the ones you like, and offer one of your homes (or several) for theirs. The app shows how the two homes compare in value. Talk it over in the app's private chat.
Agree, then inspect
Once the other owner accepts, you both move forward with inspections. That is when full addresses and contact details are shared. Each of you then hires your own inspector for the property you are trading for and uploads the report.
Review, proceed, paperwork
When every report is in, a 72-hour review period gives you time to read them. Then each of you decides whether to proceed. Only when you both do does the deed step begin. The app can prepare a deed template for your state. You review, sign and file it, ideally with a local attorney.
Good to know: a trade proposal or acceptance on Abode is not a binding contract. A binding exchange of property has to be separately agreed in writing and completed under your state's law, and we strongly recommend a licensed real estate attorney. Some states require one.
Built to keep things private
Your address stays hidden
Street addresses are not shown to other users. They are shared only with the owner you are trading with, and only after you both move forward with inspections.
Chat stays in the app
Messages are checked so phone numbers, emails and location clues are not shared before you both move forward with inspections.
You can report and block
Anyone can report a listing, a message or a person, and block someone so they can no longer contact you.

There is no commission and no fee that depends on a trade happening. Abode is paid in only two ways: a one-time fee when you publish a listing, and optional memberships.

The details, plainly
- The listing fee is paid once for each property, when you publish it. It is not tied to whether a trade is proposed, accepted or completed, and it is non-refundable once paid.
- Lease takeover (sublet) listings have no listing fee.
- There is no charge for proposing, accepting or completing a trade.
- Abode does not charge for inspections and does not choose your inspector. You hire and pay your own inspector directly.
- Memberships renew until you cancel. You can cancel any time and keep the benefits through the end of the period you paid for.
- Payments are handled securely by Stripe. Abode never sees or stores your card number.
- Prices may change for future purchases. See the Terms and Conditions (Section 9) for the full wording.

Abode is a technology platform. It gives property owners the tools to list a home, browse other listings and propose a trade directly with another owner.
Abode is not a real estate broker, agent or attorney, and does not represent either side of a trade. Listing details and value estimates come from the owners and outside data sources and are not appraisals. Abode does not guarantee that any match will lead to a completed trade. Please talk to a licensed attorney and a tax advisor before you complete any exchange.
